About The Event
Have you ever wondered how to make a three dimensional object out of wet felt? In this workshop, Liza will teach you how to work with a resist on which to build your handbag so that no seams are required.
We will start by each creating a piece of prefelt in different colors. This will give you a chance to practice how to pull and lay the fibers, surface rub, roll and full it to create a piece of flat fabric. These pieces will be shared with the class so we have many colors with which to decorate or handbags.
We will then work with our resist to create the body of the purse and use cut up pieces of the prefelt as surface decoration. Wetting, rubbing, rolling and fulling complete the body of the purse.
Another technique will be shown to make cords for the straps.
Some experience in wet felting would be helpful but not necessary.
All material provided. Plenty of fibre to create handbag, prefelts, and handles.
Please bring an old bath towel and 2 big cans of tomato or apple juice to use as table risers. You are welcome to leave the cans of juice with the Sisterhood to donate to the Tatamagouche Food Bank.
Can't make it to WoolstockEAST? Sisterhood Fibres has lots of other workshop opportunities throughout the year. Take a look at our Events Page for all upcoming workshops and events!
