Carding & Blending Basics

Drum carders and blending boards can be intimidating to a fibre artist. They seem to turn plain fibre into something magical, but are a pricey tool to invest in. 

In this workshop participants will explore these two blending tools to discover the strengths of each. You will begin by examining the drum carder and how it functions, basic maintenance and how to card fleece versus prepared fibre. 

We will then move on to blending on the drum carder and blending board, discuss the differences between the tools, and how to include fibres like bamboo and silk. You will then learn how to remove fibre from the tools as batts, roving or rolags.

This workshop is intended for felters, spinners or any fibre artist who wants to learn how to card and blend their own fibres.

All participants will have access to carders and blending boards during the class and will have the opportunity to try both tools, as students will be rotating though the different equipment options.

Class Materials Fee:

To be paid directly to the instructor: $40 includes all materials (washed fleece, hand-dyed fibre, silks, bamboo, other fibres). Materials fees are not included in the registration cost and should be paid directly to the instructor just prior to the start of the class.

**Note: Feel free to bring your own personal blending board or drum carder. If you bring your own equipment you do not need to share it. Please let us know if you will be doing this at the time of registration.

Please note workshops are kept small to make the most of your day. If you need to cancel, your workshop fee is non refundable but you can transfer your registration to someone else.
